This is a thread more for general rules and guidelines. Any and all SO's should definitely put their two cents in here. I will say I requested of the capn before deciding to post this and was advised I could/should.
*The most important thing about Pillaging is jobbers.******
*You might decide to go solo pillaging with just bots.
*NEW officers and those who simply are more comfortable with it...should pillage with just crew.
*Those ready to be Fleet and those who would like more of a challenge should begin to hire in from the notice board.
The next few "guidelines" are for pillages with hired in pirates....
1) only on elite type voyages should you restrict or limit jobbers by their stats.
2) treat every jobber as a precious commodity. We all have to share from the same jobber pool so don't pee in the pool.
3) some jobbers are rude, annoying, lazy or just plain brand new. Learn to tell the difference please. PLANK is acceptable however there are planking expectations.
A) always advise the pirate to be planked first of the behavior you expect ( work, be cool, stop getting in crows nest in battle, etc)
B) always give three warnings! never give an OM an excuse to say you didn't warn them...three is good and in some cases almost too many but three.
C) The only time to plank during battle is if the behavior is extremely bad or they d/c and you need a bot instead. again warn them! even d/c pirates because other jobbers will see yer attempt to warn and bear witness to your good doings.
D) if you plank the booty divide SHOULD automatically take that into effect however if at booty divide you see they still get paid you must decide if they deserve it. (for instance they worked well for three battles but the fourth d/c and you needed a bot).
4) adding and subtracting from the divide
A) the times we minus during a divide are when they leave in battle, are annoying the entire trip and multiple times are warned they will get minus. Simply putting -1 to leavers or those that don't stay till end in the advertisement on the notice board is not enough. In fact it could cause the crew to lose jobbers in the long run.
B) always remember that to plus someone shows respect for their work and is better than having a bunch of minus. So instead of -1 to leavers advertise +1 to stayers. motivate them to work harder for you with bribery if necessary but encourage with your words.
Finally and the most important thing about Jobbers is ....
IF you are on a pillage with one who is being very rude, argumentative and won't cooperate and you have had to threaten plank and warned at least twice.... Get an SO or another officer involved first. IS there something that can be done to help first? if not then the officer or SO will tell you it won't work and definitely plank. IF for some reason no one else is around to intervene then plank after the third warning.
We were all jobbers before we came to this crew. We all job out to other crews. Let's treat our jobbers better than other crews treat theirs so we get the best and most jobbers.
